【ISWSGS2018】First Announcement of the 2nd International Symposium on Watershed Geographic Sciences 2018
First Announcement of the 2nd International Symposium on Watershed Geographic Sciences 2018 (ISWSGS2018)
--Comprehensive observation and modeling
Nanjing China
11-15, October 2018
ISWSGS2018 (the 2nd International Symposium on Watershed Geographic Sciences) will be held from October 11 to 15, 2018 in Nanjing, China. This symposium is co-organized by Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology, and Key Laboratory of Watershed Geographic Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The theme of the symposium is “Comprehensive observation and modeling”. The Symposium aims to provide a forum for the exchange of the latest research achievements on watershed geographic sciences. World leading scientists are invited to present keynotes covering the latest advances in soil and water processes, human geography, remote sensing and watershed management. Both oral presentations and posters are acceptable at the symposium. The official language is English.
Topics Include
1. Soil and water observation at multiple scales
2. Land cover changes and ecological impacts
3. Rapid urbanization and environmental impacts
4. Big data acquisition and modeling for watershed processes
5. Large lake watershed management methods and practice
6. Other topics relevant to watershed geography
Field Trip
A one-day guided trip to Tianmu Lake is provided immediately after the symposium. The lake is about 100 km from Nanjing and 200 km from Shanghai. An observatory was setup for regular monitoring of watershed land use change, hydrology, soil, vegetation, and nutrient cycling from micro to meso scales. In particular, a hillslope soil-water-nutrient monitoring system has been established in this observatory, which collects the surface and subsurface of water and nutrient losses, carbon and nitrogen transport and transformation, soil fertility and tea growth. The aim of the monitoring is to provide data support for sustainable land use optimization and water quality protection in Tianmu Lake watershed.
